Steering Committee Minutes

June 12, 2009

AGENDA

1.  Roll Call: B. Sattler, B. Afzal, R. Clouse, K. Curtis, R. Gilden, K. Hall,  S. Worthington, T. Engle, W. Hill, J. Leffers, l. Anderko, R. Clouse

2.  Review Wingspread Agenda and Timeline

The agenda was reviewed and approved with a couple of observations:

  • We need to coordinate workgroup discussion so that enough time is allowed to brainstorm…on work plans. R. gilden noted that there is time on day one for each workgroup to present what they have accomplished, which will free up time to discuss future plans during Friday and Saturday’s workgroup discussions.

  • W. Hill will provide some “boiler plate” materials that can be used in strategic planning.

3.  Workgroup Updates (see posted minutes, workgroup leaders to present highlights)

  • Research:

    • WG is interested in writing a conference grant to bring together nursing researchers. To discuss developing an EH and nursing research agenda. They will need to:

  • Outline the goals and objectives for the conference

  • Identify time line and budget

  • Discuss who should be strategic collaborators and invited to join the conversation early in the planning process

  • What to do with the outcomes of the conference, for example communicate need to federal funders.

  • Create/facilitate a network of EH Nursing Researchers

  • They would like to spend time at Wingspread creating a draft document related to this initiative.

  • Education

    • E-text: A sub committee has been organized to work on the e-text; they would welcome participation from other workgroup members. They hope to submit a proposal for funding to support an e-text retreat at which they will determine content structure, outcomes, etc.

    • B. Sattler reported a successful faculty workshop at UCSF-and said that others from the group are interested in joining the education workgroup.

  • Policy/Advocacy

    • Created and posted a list of focus areas for the work plan they will be creating at Wingspread. Additional comments and ideas are encouraged. Ideas include: Create a CE module on advocacy, create a model policy tool-box, recognition of ANHE members with expertise in certain areas, create a blog on what nurses can do to make a difference, creation of a take action site on e-commons, hold a national lobby day, speaker series.

    • A resolution committee was organized, they will work on developing a group of resolutions to both guide ANHE’s decision making processes. The resolutions will also be made available to other associations who may want to adapt and/or adopt them. Resolutions currently underdevelopment include: climate change, chemical policy, workplace protection, hg and fish consumption, and possibly one on transportation.

  • Practice

    • The committee is taking a step back from developing a position paper; they would like to have a model for framing this paper….perhaps working with B. Sattler.

    • They are considering drafting a practice resolution.

    • Will develop and post mock green job descriptions for nurses in facilities….

4.  Committee Updates

  • 501©3 Committee -Brenda and Barbara are taking a web based course on creating a 501c# organization.

5.  e-commons/ANHE Update
